    Our History

The School of Economics at Guangxi University has a long history, dating back to the establishment of the Department of Economics at Guangxi University in 1937, with Mr. Li Da, a representative of the Communist Party's First National Congress and a renowned thinker, serving as its first department head. In 1992, the Department of Economics at Guangxi University was renamed as the School of Economics. In 1997, the School of Economics at Guangxi University merged with the Department of Agricultural Economics and Management at Guangxi Agricultural University, and was renamed as the School of Business at Guangxi University. In 2021, the first-level discipline of Applied Economics and corresponding undergraduate majors of Guangxi University were transferred to the China-ASEAN Institute of Financial Cooperation, and a new School of Economics was established at Guangxi University (hereinafter referred to as the School of Economics). The School of Economics currently has nearly 1,700 undergraduate and graduate students, with over 20,000 alumni nationwide and in Southeast Asia, many of whom have become leaders in various fields or sectors.

The School of Economics' Applied Economics discipline is the only one among liberal arts disciplines in Guangxi universities to be included in the Ministry of Education's "World-Class Discipline Construction Plan", while also being included in Guangxi's first-class discipline "A-Class Project" construction plan. The school has the only doctoral program in economics in Guangxi and the only postdoctoral research mobile station in applied economics in Guangxi. The school has three undergraduate majors - Finance, International Economics and Trade, and Economics - to support the development of its disciplines, all of which are included in the Ministry of Education's "National First-Class Undergraduate Majors" construction plan. It offers two distinctive graduate enrollment directions: Border Economics, the only one of its kind in the country, and China-ASEAN and National Economy with distinctive features. It also has Guangxi's first national experimental teaching demonstration center in liberal arts and a key laboratory in Guangxi's universities.
